Passivation is the process of making a material "passive" or resistant to corrosion. This is typically achieved by forming a thin oxide layer on the surface of the material, which acts as a barrier to prevent further corrosion. A sacrificial anode is a more reactive metal that is connected to the metal that needs protection from corrosion. The sacrificial anode will corrode instead of the protected metal, effectively sacrificing itself to protect the other metal from corrosion. This process is commonly used in the protection of steel structures in marine environments, such as ships and offshore platforms. **
